Perma-forestry with native species

Context

Which restoration approach we commit to. The model lays out the options — regeneration, seeding, dense planting, spaced planting (see method).

Options considered

Assisted natural regeneration where seed sources survive; native mixed planting where they do not. We favour these over intensive or single-species approaches.

Decision

Perma-forestry: native species only, diverse mixed stands, assisted natural regeneration first, low-input and indigenous techniques over heavy intervention.

Why

Mixed native stands outperform monocultures and carry more life, and letting the land regrow where it can is cheapest and toughest. This matches our capacity and the goal of habitat, not tree cover.

Constraints

Two part-time people, a tight budget, and a palette set by the site's parameters.

Revisit when

A method visibly fails on the ground, or a field study refutes an assumption.
