Handoff vehicle

Context

We mean for the land to be handed on rather than held forever, but the mechanism for that is wide open and does not need deciding yet.

Options considered

The full range stays on the table: deed terms, a conservation easement, a land trust, a foundation, community ownership, or rights of nature where possible (see stewardship & handoff).

Decision

Leave it fully open. Commit to the intent now: we do not want to own the end result, we want to start it well and pass it on. Decide the actual vehicle later, and layer it up over time rather than picking one thing early.

Why

The legal form is secondary to the ecosystem, and it depends on the country and on whether a successor community forms. Locking it in now would be guessing at the least important layer.

Revisit when

  • Land is secured and worth protecting.
  • A successor community or partner organisation comes into view.
